There is no question about the value of life insurance for expats, especially for those who have young and growing families. Life insurance means the family or beneficiary can make a claim for a lump sum amount upon the death of the insured person. Life insurance for expats is no doubt essential, given the fact that these people are living in a foreign country and their families can easily get into financial trouble in a place since they normally wouldn’t have as much financial and social resources abroad as when they are back home. Life insurance for expats can be paid monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually, depending on the person’s preference. However, it is a general rule that the more frequently the insured person has to pay his premiums, the more his payments will amount to when added up. An expat can also opt to change his plan, but has to pay the difference between the cost of the original plan and the new plan if more expensive. Also, if there is an increase in the new plan’s pure insurance component (net amount of risk of the insured), proof of insurability will be required.
